| Die Künstlerin aus der Schweiz und Luxemburg hat in Düsseldorf an der Kunstakademie Malerei und Videokunst studiert. 1990 war sie mit einem Stipendium der Kunstakademie Düsseldorf 6 Monate in der 'Cité Internationale des Arts' in Paris. Seit 1993 nimmt M. Thyes an Ausstellungen und Festivals teil.
Seit 1999 konzentriert sich Thyes auf die Bereiche Videokunst, Animation und digitale Bilder. Seit 2000 realisiert sie zudem Medienkunst-Projekte im öffentlichen Raum. 2004 wurde MUTABLE WORLDS für den 'Marler Videokunst-Preis' nominiert und mehrfach ausgestellt. 2005 erhielt FLAG METAMORPHOSES eine Förderung des Schweizer Bundesamtes für Kultur, und ASCENSION gewann den 'Depict! Award' am Encounters Kurzfilmfestival in Bristol (UK). Ihre Animation 'EU 2020 ?' war u.a. an der KunstFilmBiennale in Köln und in den Kunstwerken KW Berlin beteiligt. 2006 wurde FLAG METAMORPHOSES u.a. an der Medienkunst-Ausstellung FILE in Rio de Janeiro gezeigt und vorgestellt (unterstützt durch Pro Helvetia). FLAG METAMORPHOSES erhielt 2006 den 'MultiMedia Prize' am Avanca Festival in Portugal. 2007 erhielt die Video-Installation MALTA AS METAPHOR eine Förderung des Schweizer Bundesamtes für Kultur; das Video-Triptychon MULTIPLE MADONNA wurde bei Street Level Photoworks in Glasgow (UK) gezeigt. FLAG METAMORPHOSES wurde u.a. bei Urban Screens Conference + Public Art Events in Manchester (UK) präsentiert. 2008 nahm FLAG METAMORPHOSES teil an 'Nichts zu deklarieren. Triennale für Zeitgenössische Kunst Oberschwaben', Zeppelin Museum, Friedrichshafen. Im August und September arbeitete die Künstlerin als Stipendiatin in Glasgow. 2009 zeigte M. Thyes eine Einzelausstellung im Kunstverein Rhein-Sieg in Siegburg, und FLAG METAMORPHOSES nahm teil an 'Building Paradise' bei 7+Fig Art Space in Los Angeles, USA. 2010 war FLAG METAMORPHOSES im April in der Halle Zehn / CAP Cologne in Köln installiert. Im Juni wird M. Thyes in Zürich arbeiten und im August in Mazedonien. Sep. - Okt. wird FLAG METAMORPHOSES bei ON-OFF-Artprojects in Hamburg installiert. GLOBAL VULVA wird dieses Jahr an mehreren Festivals gezeigt. |

The swiss / luxembourgish artist has studied painting and videoart at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dusseldorf, Germany. In 1990, she stayed for 6 months in Paris at the 'Cité Internationale des Arts' with a grant. Since 1993, Thyes participates in exhibitions and festivals.
Since 1999, the artist focuses on videoart, animation and digital imagery. Since 2000, Thyes also realises media art projects on public screens. 2004: the animation MUTABLE WORLDS was nominated for the 'Marler Videokunst-Preis' and exhibited several times. In 2005, the participatory project FLAG METAMORPHOSES received funding from the Swiss Federal Office of Culture, and the video ASCENSION won the 'Depict! Award' at Encounters Shortfilm Festival in Bristol, UK. Her animation 'EU 2020 ?' took part in the KunstFilmBiennale in Cologne (DE) and at KW Berlin. Since 2006, FLAG METAMORPHOSES is shown in festivals and exhibitions internationally. FLAG METAMORPHOSES has received the Multimedia Prize 2006 at Avanca Festival, Portugal. Triennial of Contemporary Art Oberschwaben', Zeppelin Museum, Friedrichshafen (DE). In August and September, the artist worked at Glasgow with a grant. 2009, M. Thyes presented a solo show at Kunstverein Rhein-Sieg in Siegburg (DE), and FLAG METAMORPHOSES was shown at 'Building Paradise', 7+Fig Art Space, Los Angeles. 2010: In April, FLAG METAMORPHOSES was installed at Halle Zehn in Cologne. In June, M. Thyes will work in Zurich, Switzerland, and in August in Macedonia. Sep. till Oct., FLAG METAMORPHOSES will be installed at ON-OFF-Artprojects in Hamburg.
